Bethany England completed her hat-trick in first-half stoppage time

Bethany England scored a first-half hat-trick as Chelsea swept past relegated Yeovil to move up to third in the Women’s Super League.

The forward converted Adelina Engman’s cross and twice linked up with Erin Cuthbert to score at Huish Park.

Scotland’s Cuthbert found the bottom corner and Engman finished from a tight angle as Chelsea led 5-0 at half-time.

Midfielder Cuthbert slotted another after the break, before substitute Fran Kirby added two in the closing stages.

It is Yeovil’s heaviest defeat of the season, having been beaten 7-0 by Arsenal in September and the same scoreline against Chelsea in the WSL Cup.

A draw at Reading in their final league game on Saturday will be enough for Emma Hayes’ Chelsea to seal third, though they are eight points behind second-placed Manchester City.

The visitors gave a start to Norway defender Maria Thorisdottir, who had been out since October after a concussion injury.

Yeovil, who remain on minus points as a result of going into administration, host Birmingham in their last match this season.
